Taxi prices in Albany Park are generally higher than in larger cities nationwide, according to TripAdvisor. Most drivers belong to one of two taxi-related union groups: Taxi Workers United and the Independent Taxi Drivers Association. Opinions about Uber in Albany vary. Uber rates in Albany are much lower than those in Silicon Valley, where the minimum fare is $8.40. The pricing models are far too heavy-handed in Albany and New York City, and drivers aren't motivated to go out of their way to promote the area for rides.

Taxi prices in Albany, N.Y., have been rising amid new regulations imposed by the city and federal government. The increasing cost of driving on city streets, however, is not always the city's fault. Regulations designed to level the playing field between public transit and drivers have led to a steep rise in taxi prices across the region, according to transportation advocacy group Alliance for New York City (ANZ). Uber rates in Albany are due to "public outcry" after higher-ups decided not to cap costs to protect the state's economy from its own overbuilding. The new policy is part of a growing struggle by state government to limit its spending, and in particular, subsidize "unnecessary" costs of the state's bloated infrastructure.
