Taxi prices in Bradenton could rise by 20 percent in 2020 with a new "modest" tax on the expense, Mayor Pete Buttigieg told reporters at a Tuesday news conference. The ordinance must be approved by city council. The city council's proposed budget includes an additional $35 million for the non-profit organization to pay for legal and other necessary fees to defend Taxi Lives, the taxi union threatened by the Uber-X app. Without Uber-X, Buttigieg said, he and others have only started at a "temporary" standstill. Taxi prices in Bradenton were almost double that of the city's Uptown district. The New Brighton Int'l Airport was listed in the price guide as the fourth cheapest in the city.

Uber rates in Bradenton are fixed, but the local government has expressed interest in expanding it to the entire city. For instance, to increase the number of buses used by the city's homeless population, the city is looking at adding more parking lots for students and guests at Bradenton College, which takes a second-year full-time student, or adding a shuttle bus to service college students who need transportation.
