This year, there were a total of 4,000 reported ride-sharing-related crashes in Chicago. That is an 8% increase from last year.

In 2016, the City of Chicago launched the first pilot program for Lyft and Uber, called Safety Pilot.

Lyft's Safety Pilot program allows drivers to request a ride with a rating that determines whether or not they are approved for the service. The program is optional and, after a few rides, drivers may opt out. The program was successful and has proven to make it safer for drivers to request rides. In a few years, we hope to expand this model to other cities."

Taxi prices in Chicago are still on par with New York, but with the extra inches in the seat, you'll pay a bit more. Regardless, you're going to need some form of public transportation to get from one place to another, and a luxury taxi would fall into the wrong category.
