"For booking cabs in Columbus we recommend trying to hail a taxi at least 10 miles out of downtown," writes Angie. "Rides are not cheap, but they're often a much better value than the alternative."

Taxi in Columbus had been abused by several drivers, according to a police report.
After the eighth assault — causing a traffic stop — the customer "took my keys, kicked my car off the roadway and threw it into a ditch," wrote Cpl. Scott Vrabel.
Vrabel spoke to Officer Terry Wilson, who told him there was no reason for the attack.
The customer said he needed to collect his stuff because it was a new car.

If you take Uber to travel in Columbus or have questions about the fare, go to the Uber ride request page. You can add more details on the "Pickup/Dropoff" section, if needed. Columbus offers the cheapest rate in the state on uberX. Uber rates in Columbus, Ohio are cheap compared with that of other major cities in the region, mostly due to parking – roughly the same as in the Chicago region. On average, a weekend ride can cost between $20 and $40.

Taxi prices in Columbus, Ohio, are higher than the national average. At $12.48 per minute, you'd pay $28.60 more than if you just drove. The cost of Uber's Columbus service, in contrast, is $6 per minute, or less than 20 cents per mile — around the national average. The not-for-profit ride-sharing company not only helps provide affordable transportation, it's also proving to be a healthy revenue source for the city of Columbus. Although the prices appear affordable, 22 percent of residents reported they typically use taxis rather than Uber and Lyft. Another 8 percent said they are "fairly comfortable with" Uber and Lyft because they are the only transportation option when there's a long wait at a train station.

Uber rates in Columbus are lower than the national average, but higher than the national average in Columbus for other cities with smaller populations, according to a coalition of more than 20 nonprofit and industry organizations advocating for low-cost rides. Uber rates in Columbus are relatively low—15 to 30 cents per mile when you factor in the cost of fuel—but Uber's status as a satellite service allows it to surge pricing when demand reaches historic highs. Recently, when all the city's Uber and Lyft drivers were away from work for a week, Uber started up on Market Street with "free rides" for four hours on days that the companies aren't available. The service was taken down briefly when the surge pricing was also temporarily taken offline, but resumes automatically once they return.
