The most common way to get to the beach in Lagos is via the coastal road. This road can be found just north of the Lagos Lagos Expressway (LLX). As a general rule, if there are two or more taxis, the driver will either take the first taxi, or the first one to the end of the street. If the first taxi does not show up, try another taxi.


Taxi drivers are everywhere, but in the city of Lagos most are friendly, and most have a good idea about the best way to get to the beach. In a town of this size, finding a good taxi is like finding a good restaurant. If you're lucky you'll get an experienced driver who knows where the best restaurants are. If not, then just get one who's got a decent rating on Google.

If you do decide to get a taxi, make sure they are not running late and have some money.

Taxi in Lagos, the Nigerian capital, used to be able to charge a fee to pull a car over. But the country has become so heavily swamped by traffic that drivers have had to take bribes to do the job properly. "It's a bad system," one taxi driver tells me. "The thieves get big fees, but then get off at the end. The big companies will drive around the city a lot and they'll be caught."
