Taxi in Las Vegas: While if you see a taxi company promoting a price lower than the fare you agree on, don't ride that taxi, keep driving. A lot of drivers don't read their schedules and start offering rides from a higher price point. However, if you do ride a taxi that starts you up at a higher rate, the fare is probably the lowest that you can find. Remember to make a good deal, and if you are booking for a week or more, the fare should be at least the same as if you picked up in your own car.

Uber drivers in Las Vegas worked overtime and others drove others' cars to make extra money, according to the suit. Several drivers claimed they were repeatedly denied pay. And several were ticketed when they told authorities they worked for Uber. Uber could not be reached for comment. Sandoval and Burtko said Nevada law requires Uber drivers to be employed by a licensed cab company.

Taxi prices in Las Vegas haven't always been as low as they are today, but some give up on their rides because they fear someone will take them. At its peak, only around 30 percent of Las Vegas taxis were regulated, according to David Huffman, a taxi union representative. Now, drivers and industry groups contend that regulatory oversight is required to reduce taxi gouging and other harm to passengers. It seems as though the "real" price of the local fare is indeed the same for all taxis, even though the fleet may be larger. "Real" mean not just the price of the taxi, but all the expenses and uncertainty of the trip, such as: the time, the place, and how much you should have a second car.

Uber rates in Las Vegas are substantially higher than any other US city. Los Angeles — considered one of the fastest growing US cities — sees a 5% average boost in Uber fares on select days. This comes a year after "Billions of Taxis" was released which depicts how American cities are devalued through transportation costs. Uber's official rate in Las Vegas is $1.79, according to a profile of the company in The Nevada Business Review. That's equivalent to about 30 percent of a typical hourly wage in Las Vegas. Uber declined to comment about its drivers' wages or the total number of drivers who drive for the company.
