A few more quotes from the NYT:
Uber and Lyft have been widely criticized in the United States for providing an unfair advantage to wealthy riders and drivers. The companies have also been accused of failing to follow through on promises of transparency.
To date, Uber and Lyft have never been sued.
They are currently facing an antitrust case in Boston.
Uber has raised $9.2 billion in funding, led by SoftBank Group Corp.
The company has also had an explosive growth spurt this year: Uber's average daily active users increased by 4 million last month, more than twice as much as a year earlier, and has nearly doubled its number of users over the last three months.
The ride-hailing giant has become one of the hottest private companies on Wall Street, with shares surging almost 50 percent in the past year.

Favorite of all my rides, and by far the most fun. We ran into some of the hundreds of locals that are lucky enough to be part of the Wanna get to the airport! Most every taxi driver knows the entire country, so being able to get a ride from the airport to an apartment in an unassuming neighborhood in Minneapolis is an amazing experience. Other than the gas station across the street from the airport, the only other stop is for doughnuts. They are one of the only outlets on 6th Ave that sell bread and donuts.

Uber in Minneapolis, who also frequents the Bloomington Farmers' Market, made $40,000 in income in the calendar year. The company didn't disclose which city he worked in, but here's his full breakdown for the year:
"Uber makes drivers rich while taking a risk that doesn't pay," the "What Does a Highly Compensated Uber Driver Get?" list for 2018 reads.
"When you set up shop as a rideshare driver, you don't want to pick a town like Bloomington," Uber wrote in a blog post this past October.

Taxi prices in Minneapolis may be higher than those in other cities. The American Tax Foundation (ATF) reports the average Taxi in Minneapolis costs between $16 and $17 a day. When renting a car, you're basically paying for parking and gas. The top ten most expensive cities for a Taxicab in the U.S. are in the northeast and south, including New York, Boston, Detroit, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. Not to mention Detroit.

Taxi prices in Minneapolis rose by 35 percent last year, with a $2 increase in a 20-minute trip, according to data collected by community groups that track the costs of taxis. They also cite the new social media blackout rules for Uber and Lyft, which have reduced the number of drivers in many neighborhoods to zero, and industry complaints that the city has imposed tighter rules on ride-sharing services such as Lyft and UberX that don't require drivers to have proper licenses or documents such as proof of insurance. Drivers also are raising their demand for gas, which could significantly reduce the price, or at least make it harder, to pass on any increase in cost to drivers.

Uber rates in Minneapolis are double the national average, but they're still a bargain compared to most cities, leaving just six months of a car leasing contract to be paid off before getting your next cheque. And no fee goes to city coffers, leaving car lease owners with a steady stream of income. The recommended annual fee on a vehicle for commercial users ranges from $60 to $100 per month, which covers, among other things, maintenance and insurance. If you want to buy a vehicle and have the cash for it, however, the recommended annual fee for new-car. Smartphone apps help fill the gap, especially with fares. In fact, there is no number the app can use to tell which other companies are charging a cheap ride.
