The city of Nashville is one of several cities that is looking at Uber as a solution for its public transportation woes. In fact, the company recently announced that it will be rolling out UberPOOL, a new carpooling service specifically for passengers in Nashville that will be available from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. The service will provide passengers with a carpool discount, free rides in and out of the city and a carpooling app. The only catch is that this only applies to UberPOOL users.
For those not familiar with Uber, a carpool is a group of people who all have a car and are working together to make money by sharing costs and expenses. That's pretty much what UberPOOL is. The carpool discount only applies to UberPOOL users.

Taxi prices in Nashville are so low, in fact, that individuals of virtually any ethnicity can make more in a day in a taxi than they could making $32 an hour at a minimum wage job. An average weekend night in Nashville is $9.02, according to H. Frank Tullis of Nashville Taxis, who calls the numbers "crazy." That works out to about $103.14 a night, which is 10 percent less than in Washington, D.C., and an even more punishing 4 percent less than in New York City.

Uber rates in Nashville are often much cheaper than UberX prices in other cities in the country. Based on all of the data, the ridership is not significantly different for UberX and Yellow Cab. Overall, Yellow Cab's Nashville cab rates are almost double UberX rates in other cities in the United States, said Brett. In Nashville, people prefer Yellow Cab because of their lower pricing. Some of their competitors have been pricing their cabs too aggressively.

Uber rates in Nashville are 2.3x higher than in the average city. Last year, Pittsburgh was the only metropolis to see its transit share increase in the past year. However, Nashville has no metro transit system, making it the only metropolis in the U.S. with no in-house bus service. Tesla Motors Inc. and Lyft Inc. are each worth $26 billion and Lyft's rides have grown at 17 percent per quarter compared with other public transportation services in the region. That growth underscores the importance of a reliable transportation network with better service levels. That doesn't mean that Nashville isn't an exciting city to visit, however.

Taxi prices in Nashville are running around $15 an hour (that's a bit high, given Nashville's early-afternoon rush hour), not to mention road delays from late morning to late evening. There's also a one-way fare for $10 for overnight stay at any airport hotel. If you're in Nashville, and plan on drinking heavily, this is a decent option if you're going to be home for a short stay, and not the long-haul. Taxi prices in Nashville may not even be the most expensive for a trip to the airport. During a 90-minute Uber drive from a location about 50 miles from Nashville to Nashville International Airport in Tennessee, an Uber ride costs $26.97. That includes a driver, insurance, tax, and tip.

Absolutely terrible. Wait times are at least 20 minutes even in easily accessible areas and that’s if you can even get matched with a ride. The surge prices are also astronomical and are going to start causing people to be less responsible because they’d rather risk it than pay those prices.
