Taxi prices in Pinetown have plummeted from almost 1,000 pesos (€80) to 250 pesos, even though many businesses are closed during the day. The official announcement noted that Pinetown taxi licences will not be renewed and even though the regulations are being revised, there are still some areas where licenses are still in use and will be renewed. The absence of car licences is partially due to the Central Bus System not allowing buses to operate during the night. As a result, taxis have replaced public transport in many of the city's neighborhoods.
