Taxi prices in Riverside are relatively low compared to the rest of the county (in-state residents can pay less than $200 per trip) but that price gap largely affects Oakland and Berkeley, which run its own taxi systems. The county set a low tax on a year's worth of work for taxi drivers who work to send their cabs to places other than their own home areas. If passed, that change would affect as many as 150 drivers, according to city planners. A more drastic change is already under way, with taxi companies already scrambling to find space in local schools and parks.
