Uber has taken a number of steps to help riders navigate their way around the city.
The app allows riders to search by route, city and time and provides information on public transit, taxi, ridesharing and more. The app also includes a map of all the available Uber cars and a car finder that lets riders know if the car they are looking for is nearby, or nearby and accessible by Uber.
The City of San Francisco has also been very proactive with this.

Uber and Lyft have had a contentious history in San Francisco, a market where there has been an especially large amount of car-sharing, and it's safe to say that this will not be easy for either company to amicably cooperate.
The lawsuit (PDF) accuses Uber of wrongdoing under both the U.S. Fair Employment and Housing Act and the San Francisco Personal Transportation Services Ordinance. The latter ordinance mandates that the first half of each ride between an app user and a driver on the ride-sharing app must be charged.

The $12.00 per hour meter doesn't run 24 hours per day, and it only runs 1/2 a mile. So you'll have to visit San Francisco to the East side for the meter to run.

Uber rates in San Francisco are determined by how much money you can earn on a certain amount of rides per day (Calculated monthly). Cash fares and Google Fi qualify for flexible rate match policy: when you order online or on a phone using the Google feature, it is matched 100% if you can get a ride within 1 hour of payment, 90% if you can get a ride within 30 minutes, and only 10% if you can get a ride within 90 minutes. If your payment is not received for more than 30 minutes, the rate is automatically lowered to match the next available Uber rate. Just like regular Uber, Lyft, and well-known competitor Sidecar, riders with WiFi enabled can request a $1.5 ride.
